It was a scorcher! We had 57 shooters show up in record high temperatures of 103 degrees to battle this month’s COF. Some of our amazing shooters provided awnings over the stages to help with some shade, but it surely didn’t cool these shooters off as they were on fire!
The top 13 shooters were only separated by 10 shots! Now that’s some skills! Taking 1st overall and 1st in the Open division, only dropping 2 shots for the entire 6 stage match is Adam Payton. Adam scored 714.264 points to take home the gold tag. 2nd place Open Division is James Young, dropping only 4 shots but ending up in in a 3-way tie for 3rd, 4th and 5th overall. James lands 4th overall by time, scoring 693.50 for silver. 3rd place Open goes to Casey Hughes in 7th overall. Casey scored 674.00 dropping only 6 shots.
Pulling into 2nd place overall and 1 shot behind Adam is Carey Palmer in the Old Guns division. Carey scored 704.42 points, dropping only 3 shots for the match. Scott Peterson really showed his skills dropping only 5 shots for the match and landing 6th overall, 2nd in Old Guns with 683.477 points. Our 3rd place bronze goes to Owen Fjeldsted in 9th overall with 652.68 points.
The ladies were hot on the heels of the Open and Old Guns, making them work for every impact. Stephanie Baxter sits in 3rd place overall and takes home gold, just 1 shot behind Carey and 2 behind Adam. Stephanie was in that 3-way tie and was quick enough to beat James Young and Kaylyn Kingston on the time stage. Stephanie scored 694.692 points. Kaylyn Kingston ended up behind Stephanie and James by just seconds. That’s still plenty good for 2nd place Silver and 5th overall in the Ladies Division. Kaylyn scored 692.416 points. Just 2 shots behind them is Joely Pratt in 8th overall and 3rd place ladies. Joely scored 664.605 points.
Chirs Baxter takes home 1st place gold in the Semi-Auto division with 615.03 points, landing in 13th overall. Kevin Arthur picks up 2nd place silver with 480.869 points and Ross Rosseland, a new shooter to our club, earns a 3rd place bronze tag with 430.00 points. WTG Ross!
Brandon Caldwell was 1 shot behind Chris with his Air Rifle and got 1st place gold with 604.447 points. Mike Kofoed takes up the 2nd place podium spot with 563.611 points and Troy Fuit finishes the podium spots with 3rd place bronze. Troy scored 512.35 points.
Our Base Division was dominated by Stetson Sadler who earned 495.322 points for 1st place gold. 2nd place silver goes to Avery Cook with 450.739 points and 3rd place bronze goes to Jason Norwood, earning 433.664 points.
We love our Young Guns and this month crowned Kelden Kingston with 1st place gold. Kelden scored 321.519 points and got his first clean stage this month. WTG Kelden. 2nd place silver goes to his sister Teila Kingston who scored 260.00 points and 3rd place bronze goes to Nathan Marshall with 170 points.
We did have 2 adaptive shooters this month and Jodee Mathis takes 1st place with 460.00 points. She had to work for it because Kevin Leake was only 3 shots behind with 430.08 points. Great job Adaptive.
I want to personally thank everyone who brought out the awnings and helped set them up in the morning for everyone to use. That was a true blessing in this heat. I also want to thank everyone who helped take down the range after the match, we had many helpers that made it super-fast to pack up before the real heat bared down on us. Keep a lookout for the dates on August and September as those matches will be on a different weekend due to state matches being held at Big Salty.
