March 9th, 2024 Match Results

72 shooters got up early the tip o’ the mornin’ to gather at the Big Salty range for friends, family, and shooting.  5 new club members tried their luck at ringing some steel.  The weather was the best we have had all year with temperatures starting out in the high 30’t and finishing up in the afternoon in the mid 50’s.  Perfect weather for 8 stages of fun.

Luck be with the Open Division as Terry Diston showed up with fierceness to be reckoned with.  He scored a whopping 903.4 points for Gold and top score overall.  2nd and 3rd came down to splitting ales with David Civello taking 2nd Silver scoring 876.0, just 1.5 points over Chris Baxter who scored 875.5 for Bronze.

As the Irish say, “Don’t fear an ill wind if your haystacks are tied down”.  And Spencer Banger had his tied tight for sure, placing 1st in Air Rifle and 8th overall, scoring 834.1 points.  Right on his heels, just one shot behind was Dylan Whittier with another impressive score of 821.0, earning silver and 11th place overall.  Kate Jacobson scored 611.9 for her bronze tag win.

A man’s got to do what a man has got to do.  Women must do what they can’t.  And our women can shoot like the best of them.  This month Kim Garrett takes 1st place gold and 12th overall with 813.2 points!  Leah McBride and Yuki Civello traded positions all match, but it was Leah who snags that silver tag with 450.0 points, just one shot ahead of Yuki who scored 440.0.

The older the fiddle, the sweeter the tune.  Owen Fjeldsted was playing a pretty sweet tune and takes home 1st place gold in Old Guns with 790.8, which places him 16th overall.  Carey Palmer earns a solid 2nd place silver with 761.7 points and Alan Robertson takes home 3rd place bronze with 673.6.  A special pint goes out to Scott Robertson who earlier in the week brought his sump pump and generator out to the range and pumped all the water out of our shooting lanes, thank you Scott!!!

St. Patrick’s Day is an enchanted time a day to begin transforming winter’s dreams into summer’s magic.  And summer’s magic came a wee bit early for Jeromy Camp who takes home 1st place gold in Base Division and 14th place overall with 803.2 points!  Brad Kalmar and Derek Olson were chasing the end of the rainbow for that pot-0-gold, and it was Brad Kalmar’s 751.4 who found it first, scoring 1 impact more than Derek for 2nd place silver.  Derek’s 744.0 earns him a Bronze 3rd tag.

The Irish say, “A good laugh and a long sleep are the two best cures.”  But taking 1st place in Young Guns will cure just about anything! Easton Baugh did just that, scoring 755.9 points for that 1st place gold.  Teyl Petersen took an early morning drive north to compete with his Air Gun and landed 2nd place silver with an awesome score of 640.9 points.  New to the Young Gun field is Titus Baugh who learned just enough from his big brother to snag 3rd place bronze with 560.0 points.

Congratulations to all our winners and thank you to everyone who came out to support our match.  We had a huge turnout this month and it was because of all of you that we were able to run everything so smoothly.  We are just 2 months away from finishing up this season and the points closer than they ever been before.  Special thank you again for all the help with setup and takedown of the match, as always, I sincerely appreciate it.  We’ll see you all next month and “May the saddest day of your future be no worse than the happiest day of your past.”
